Aleksandra Mir Studio Visit

17 May 2016 at 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

MirPlease join us to visit the studio of contemporary artist Aleksandra Mir for a small private preview of a work which is about to travel to Tate Liverpool and the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford.
Mir is a performance, video and conceptual artist who is held in the collections of most major museums including Tate, MoMA, Whitney, and the Gugenheim.
Her current work which we will preview is called “Space Tapestry.” Directly inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and the anonymous artists who depicted Halley’s comet in 1066, Space Tapestry will eventually weave all these influences together and look forward to the comet’s predicted re-appearance in 2061.  To accomplish her vision, Mir is orchestrating a mass drawing project, employing up to 100 assistants to craft a wall hanging too large to be seen in a single venue. Various parts will be made for the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford and Tate Liverpool in 2017, as well as in other international venues.
And see examples of her work in this video.
Cost: Patrons, Friends and Guests Free. RSVP to rsvp@UKFriendsofNMWA.org.
