Howardena Pindell @ Victoria Miro

This exhibition of spray dot paintings by Howardena Pindell are among her most iconic works. The artist creates these sensuous paintings using various hole punchers and tools, which she punches into discarded card-stock, manila folders and heavy watercolour paper.  The result of which she uses as templates, spraying paint through the perforations across large-scale canvases to create fluctuating veils of colour.

For this exhibition Pindell revisits this technique, integrating geometric shapes and experimenting with different sizes of dots across fields of colour, to produce a monumental diptych.  Each of the spray dot paintings investigates themes of control, chance and the interaction of colour according to saturation and hue.
