In the aftermath of the Second World War, Laura Knight was commissioned by the War Artists’ Advisory Committee to go to Nuremberg, to record the trials of Nazi war crimes, which she did between January and April 1946. We explore this period of her career through two major preparatory studies for the painting, on permanent show at the Imperial War Museum.
