Description

Discover Ruth Asawa: Citizen of the Universe at Modern Art Oxford. This long-awaited exhibition takes a unique look at the life and work of the visionary artist, educator and activist Ruth Asawa, through her well-known wire sculptures, alongside drawings, paintings, prints, and archival materials. Asawa has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, and is included in the current Venice Biennale.

We will be led through the exhibition by Emma Ridgeway, Chief Curator at Modern Art Oxford.  She served as The Shane Akeroyd Associate Curator for the British Pavilion in Venice, working with Sonia Boyce.  The Museum will be serving refreshments.

After seeing the Asawa, we highly recommend taking this opportunity to see Pissarro: Father of Impressionism at the Ashmolean Museum. In his review in The Guardian, Jonathan Jones noted that the artist’s genius lay in making “always making you think, not feel.”  Not as well known as his fellow impressionists, Pissarro often worked in a more muted palette, with no single style or subject.  Advance purchase tickets are advised.  We should conclude at Modern Art Oxford by 11, leaving the late morning or early afternoon for Pissarro.

Cost:  Patrons and one guest – free; Friends £20; Guests £30.
